Coal mine gas from shut-down mines contains methane concentrations of up to 90 %. It is extracted from the coal deposits by suction via piping with subsequent compression. Combustion is proceeded in a conventional gas engine which drives an electricity generator. Additional benefit arises from the utilisation of the emerging engine heat.
